  I feel like this is deliberate. Animation is getting less marketing while live action remake slop is getting more marketing.

  Honestly, Disney and Pixar have no real excuse for Elio flopping. And I truly hope they don’t walk away from this thinking, “Audiences just don’t want original stories—they only want sequels.” That’s not the issue. The problem isn’t that Elio was new. It’s that it wasn’t compelling. <br><br>Meanwhile, just a few days ago, K-Pop Demon Hunters dropped on Netflix—an original idea from Sony—and it’s blowing up. It’s bold, hilarious, packed with genuinely catchy music, and visually creative in a way that actually uses the animation medium instead of just playing it safe.<br><br>Pixar and Disney, on the other hand, have fallen into this cycle of telling the same kinds of stories, with the same animation style, and a sort of vague &quot;theme-first&quot; approach that often feels uninspired or overly sanitized. It’s not that people don’t want original films—they want original films that are fun, visually interesting, and emotionally engaging. <br><br>Inside Out 2 isn’t a hit just because it’s a sequel—it works because it’s a genuinely good film that took some creative swings and resonated with people.<br><br>Disney and Pixar really dropped the ball with Elio, and instead of retreating further into the safe zone of endless sequels and familiar formulas, they should be taking notes from Sony Animation, who are actually innovating, taking risks, and trusting their audience’s imagination.
