But they were all of them decieved. In the land of Germany, in the Fires of Mount Doom, The Dark Channel 'We Can Do That Better' forged, in secret, a Master Chuck to Clamp all others. And into this chuck they poured their cruelty, their malice and their will to dominate all chucks. One Chuck to Clamp them all.

Im a machinist ,but I didn't know that these were called split jaws , I've never really thought about it untill recently ,because I like the possibilities that come with using them ,but on my home machine not the workshop one . But I also like Joe pie's chuck mounted standoff idea , which will require drilling and tapping in between each of the jaws at different distances from the centre hole . Ooh I can see my chuck ending up like a block of swiss cheese 😂

That was really cool of them to send you another set of soft jaws! Excited to see how you incorporate this chuck into upcoming projects. 👍👍

Just remember that your tip also has a radius on the end so you'll need a tiny recess at the internal corner to allow for flat work seating . Setting your boring bar at a slight angle when you machine the recess for the washer should give you that little extra reach into the corner and then you can retract back out a tiny bit and face across to finish . Closest you'll get to a trepanning manoeuvre without the hassle .

Once your work is set against the saw stop ,move the stop out of the way so that your work doesn't bind against the blade. It's the little things such as that that define whether a machinist knows what he's doing .

You made a point of achieving a precision fit at the beginning of the video. When you were test fitting the top jaws to the base jaws it triggered a big smile at this end. You know.... The smile of achievement and the satisfaction that it brings. 🖖
Thanks!
Wakodahatchee Chris

For washers you turn a cylinder to an internal diameter of the outside of your washers and a hole then though it bigger or the same as the hole that you require in your washers . You bore an internal thread in it and turn a matching threaded plug with either a slot across it or peg spanner holes on either side of it . Put washers into it tighten the plug up and mount it in your lathe .

for such small rings like washers to hold it the jaw the notch cut in the jaw should be slightly conical "to the inside" so it gets pushed against the face as you clamp. Your inset cutter would work great to make such notch. Either way cool build!
