  Why comparing everyone to Jordan (as an example), who is untouchable? There is no way he has even a 5% chance of becoming as great as him, it’s literally 0%. He has to become a player with a career as great as Magic, Durant, Hakeem... and popularity on the level of Luka, Shaq, Iverson. How much would debut patches of this players be worth today? He is locked to the Mavs for almost a decade in the future, in a stacked Western Conference. He can still be a great player, but to justify the price, he has to be far more than that. I like the buy far more for selling in a couple of years than buying it to hold for 15 years.

  Geoff, I watched the whole video and I still think $8M is crazy. Not because the card isn’t incredible—it absolutely is—but because at $8M you’re paying today for a career Cooper Flagg hasn’t had yet. We’ve watched this hobby do this before. Zion was supposed to be generational too. His cards exploded because people were pricing in what they thought he was going to become, not what he had accomplished. Injuries happened, the trajectory changed, and so did his market. That doesn’t mean Flagg becomes Zion; it means nobody knows what the next 15–20 years look like. At $1M? I can understand taking that swing on arguably his ultimate rookie card. At $8M, I think you’ve already priced in an all-time-great career. Jordan’s cards became historic because Jordan became Jordan. Mantle became Mantle. Brady became Brady. Their cardboard followed their legacy. With Flagg, we’re trying to price the legacy before the legacy exists. Could $8M look cheap someday? Sure. But “it could be worth $20M someday” doesn’t make $8M today reasonable. Potential and accomplishment are not the same thing.

  I love seeing the hobby thriving but I can also feel like I’m being squeezed out by the prices to even partake in it.

  $8M is not crazy. If that buyer decided to sleep and instead spend $8M on crypto, etf, mutual funds, real estate, or AMZN, nobody would bat an eye. Total silence. But instead those people see a card, see a price, and immediately get triggered. They need help. How other people live is not something to cry about.

  Please stop comparing Flagg to Jordan, Kobe, Lebron...  Is it a calculated risk?  Yes, huge risk as you said.  How about compare him to Zion?  Zion was hyped up as much as Flagg when he was a rookie and how's that turned out today?  Yes, Zion still is young and can turn things around but it is safe to say going back to that hype is not likely.  People can spend whatever they want as long as they can afford.  I won't say the buyer is crazy but obviously he overpaid comparing to what other GOAT cards sold for.

  People saying they are being priced out are not looking in the right place. I buy many cards over $500 or 1k.. But I also recently started a set of a particular 2024  insert set and the cards are mostly $1 to 5$ but a couple are 20 to $30 range. That set is super easy to put together and allows me to get some solid prospects. I got back into collecting with the 2024 NFL draft class so this set means something cool to me. Ive bought plenty of cool cards in the 25 to 100 range and that should be affordable to many

  As a long time collector and investor I've always hoped for the day where sports cards were taken seriously in the world. When you talk about them, people dont roll their eyes and think you nuts for spending a lot of money on them. And to see what this hobby has become today excites the hell out of me. Im with you Geoff.  Let the huge sells continue and sportcard market flourish baby. I love it.

  whats crazy is how its taken the fun out of the hobby and make it purely a money play. This kills it for those with lower incomes. And thats not even talking about how much of the industry is about gambling now.
