Summerall was outstanding. He instinctively knew when to say nothing and let the emotions and scenes speak for themselves. He and John, what an awesome team

The two best NFL announcers of all time. A classic time era to watch football. The teams would build most of their roster through the draft, and most of the players stayed on the same team their entire career.

I loved these St Louis Cardinals uniforms from the early 80s... The ones they wear now is nothing like it... Classic combo...

Seven years later, Gibbs and Hanifan would win a Super Bowl together.

As a 14 year old, my Mother took me to this game. I'll never forget it. We took the Metro.

Man those 80s cardinals teams were always so solid but we’re stuck in an extremely difficult NFC East and just couldn’t seem to make the playoffs. This ‘84 team might’ve been the best of them all. A top 5 offense in the NFL with Lomax having a career year, complemented by a solid defense and incredible pass rush. Unsurprisingly, kicker was their biggest weakness and cost them the season.

Even though they only went 9-7 I truly believe this might’ve been one of the greatest teams ever to miss the playoffs. After week 5, the cardinals finished 7-4 with all 4 losses being by 1 score. If the cards had won this one they would’ve hosted Chicago in the divisional round, a team they dominated earlier in the season. Regardless, it all would’ve probably been for nothing because the 49ers were just on another level that year...

I will never forget this game. Both Cards vs Skins games from that season were classics. It seems like a rare scenario where if you win you win your division but if you lose you miss the playoffs.

Summerall’s old ‘Cards team. He probably was secretly pulling for them here.

So funny to think the Phoenix Cardinals, and even these St. Louis cards, were in the NFC EAST! As a skins fan, I remember these days well.
