The skills of women in old communities have always fascinated me, whether dying, medicine, cooking, farming, housewifery, making textiles and clothes; the list is so long - they were (often still are) the glue that held societies together.

I've started weaving and working with linen. People were probably very careful of their garments in the old days. It gives one a new appreciation for the ancestors.

I raise sheep and spin yarn from their wool. I am excited to be weaving this year as well. I may have to start my own color garden.

I loved this video, my great grandma would do this to make clothes for all 11 of them back in the great depression. I still have her apron.

What a fantastic film; the process, the colours, the shooting. I loved the in depth explanation from an experienced traditional plant dyer, and the fact that you did it together as authentically as possible. The background setting of Ribe feels really immersive, and I liked that you took the time to show respect for Anna and her knowledge. Another beautiful film, friend. Thank you for putting it together!

Both of you speak excellent English, and this is so much better than what we have on our TV here. Thank you 👍🇬🇧

fascinating, i was taught to hand dye with plants as a child but haven't done so in nearly 50 years. I still knit, crochet and sew but we were also taught to drop spin so yes, it is important to pass those skills on to the next generation. thank you for a VERY interesting insight

It makes me happy to hear that they had so much colour it their clothes back then.

This is a very enjoyable video to watch. I've experimented with plant-based textile dyeing and found it to be very rewarding. The colors are pleasing in a way that commercial dyes cannot match. The "work" involved is worth the effort.

It's always awesome seeing cloth come out of the indigo bath. Knowing how it works doesn't make it less magical.

Somehow makes me feel good that, in a time when just survival was difficult, people wanted to have pretty stuff.
