In my younger days, I won 18 Risk tournaments, your video is mechanically correct, but much like poker, you need to read the player. Watching tendencies of other players their risks as it were is just as important.

When I was living in a dorm room there was this guy who was obsessed with nazi Germany who played a homebrew version of risk with people all the time and he'd always win because only he understood his made up rules, nobody liked him and people would play him all the time because they wanted to be the one to beat him at his own game, I watched a few games until I got the gist of his weird rules, and just barely managed to beat him because the other two players sacrificed themselves to give me a chance, he was absolutely pissed off and I refused to ever give him a rematch because I knew never getting a chance to fight me again would upset him the most

One important sticking point. The game plays best with four players. If it's one on one, then it's just a race to see who gets more stuff. If it's got three, then two will gang up on the other one and then take on each other (not fun if you're the one who just loses because of it). There's a slight chance the alliance could break down before then, but I know I wouldn't break it. Guaranteeing I can take one player out of the game is too good to pass up. I just have to try to be in a better position than the other guy when it turns into a one on one. Not to mention breaking it would likely lead to a new alliance against me.

Oh and I love Risk. Easily my favorite board game. One of the reasons I like commander in magic the gathering is that at its best you're basically playing card game Risk.

Funny you showed the Vizzini quote - one time when we played Risk in college before the game started I declared I was going to "win the land war in Asia". All of my starting territories were there. Almost all of the conflict was everywhere else. I stayed pretty quiet. No one was worried about or focused on me.

When we were down to 3 players left, A was annoyed at B and they chewed each other to bits. I mopped up what was left.

I won the land war in Asia.

I thought there would be more tips in this video. This is more of a description of the rules and absolute basics.

Advantage of South America -- you hold one continent and easily break up two others. Capture North Africa and Central America and you already control three continents. This strategy always defeated the c. 2000 online game, no matter how many players there were.
PS - cool video!

Winning risk is great but winning a game of axis and allies greater! I would love to see a guide on how to win for each side!

Pretty good Risk 101

I grew up playing Risk with my dad. And to his credit he never went "easy" on me. Eventually I became a much better player.
