30-06 is hard to beat. 7mm mag is good too, but for me it will slways be 30-06. 30-06 shooting 180 or 220 grns will flatten any critter

The practicality of the 7 mm is it can do anything the 3006 can do and more.

I take issue with your presentation about there is no difference at typical ranges on game. I’ve hunted deer at under 300 yards all my life with various calibers including the 7 RM. It has significantly greater terminal performance on game than a 30-06, 270, 308, etc. The tissue destruction is substantial greater. I’ve seen this over and over again in deer camp as animals are cleaned. Some cartridges just hit above their weight, like a 25-06 and the 7mag. I can’t necessarily explain it but I’ve seen it.

I experienced the need for 1 more round in the 7mm mag in a hard rain when I couldn't reach the ammo inside my bib rain gear. Every situation is different, but I wish I would have bought a 30-06 instead. Just something I experienced first hand. In this case the 160 gr cup and core bullet came apart bad on a bull elk. I changed to a different bullet in 175 grain. The next time turned out much better.

As always...$$$$$$$$$. New rifle sales, more expensive ammo sales. Very little else.

Umm your arrow didn't actually point at the belt. Only the case rim. Just thought I'd point that out.

.30-06 Springfield first, then the 7mm Remington Magnum to project .30-06 power to longer ranges. Flat trajectory.

 7mm is way better.
