I was having a drink when I read the title, and almost sprayed my keyboard. It´s not even a competition. I´m not even gonna say what the answer is, because deep down, everyone knows it.

I was in 4th grade in 1964 when I saw the Beatles in Ed Sullivan.
I had been thru the Cuba scare a year prior and the JFK assignation just 3 months before.
The youth of America needed hope in the future and something not from America.
Looking back now 60 years later, I wonder about the timing ?
I love the Beatles bought all the records first in Mono then Stereo & love the music.
The timing was perfect for my generation to heal the pain of the Cold War

It wasn't really a time when people thought about who was the best or about who 'crushed' whom (like today), we just loved all the great music and didn't think about comparisons. Things were moving too fast anyway, and everything that came out was just fresh and new and enjoyed on its own merits. The Beatles and the Stones were very different groups musically and we loved both of them for what they were. That said, most people who were around at the time experienced the Beatles as being in a league of their own, musically, emotionally, creatively, and culturally. It's hard to convey to people today the impact they had at the time.
