A lot of you asked how these were attached and whether they would move over time. Two winters later — still solid.<br>Would you build stairs like this?

All my decks have box steps. Solid as a rock!

Next to concrete these are the most solid steps I have ever seen built. Amazing work by a master carpenter!

Box steps are Awesome, they last far longer than stringers, are modular, so a damaged step can be replaced entirely without altering the rest. I use them, with pressure treated for decks, about a 5 or 6 step limit. Repaired a long exterior staircase, that had rotted at the bottom with the bottom 2 boxed. I did the work 8 years ago and walked on those today, no movement.

You kept every rise the same height! Looks great!

I use 2x6 for the first rise, 2x8 for the rest. With 2x treads, all steps rise 7 1/4 in. Using 4x4 for the vertical tie in, screw fom inside, provides solid handrail posts.

I am in construction for 30 + years .We build new and total renovations all my jobs are referrals .We use sub contractors for most of the work .We need more of men like this in the US .Real craftsmen are a dying breed.Hopefully in my lifetime it changes.

Finding everything except for the dimensions he used. Can't really do this as a beginner if I don't know where to start

I built my first set like that in 2006 , mine are three boards deep as the step which gives a larger area to step on and 8’ foot wide. The hight was only 22” high . Mine were built on the ground I will pour a concrete pad for the next set and use plastic on the bottom to give it clearance for water separation. And use stainless screws to anchor the plastic runners. The steps boards are 5/4 decking . To add it cost more to build them that way, but much more safe and to me they look better and last longer. If you can assemble them with stainless steel screws and then reuse the screws on the next set when that time comes!
