Three things that did not fit in the video.

First: the boy who found the skull was fossil hunting with a friend and had found things before, which is the only reason it went to a museum instead of onto a shelf at home. It then sat in the collection for five years before anyone worked out what it was. The largest bird skull on earth spent half a decade as an unlabelled box.

Second: when the first one of these was described in 1887, it was published as a giant toothless mammal, something like a sloth. It took four years to work out that the jaw belonged to a bird, and the animal still carries the name it was given while everyone had it wrong.

Third: the closest living relative of these animals, the seriema, is kept semi-tame on some South American farms. Not as a pet. As a snake control measure.

The question from the end still stands. Which animal alive right now is unbeatable on ground that is already disappearing? Say it below.
