A sense of humor - fun and play - is essential to being Australian. We muck around. We don't take ourselves too seriously - and we're pretty serious about that... ha!

I was on a social game site with people from all over the world. I could have a private conversation with fellow Aussies in the open, using slang so the others didn't understand. True story!

Having served in the Australian Army I can say that I heard lots of stories regarding our Sig Ops during wartime, and even peacetime exercises, having fun with allies and enemies alike. And also we heard about the Furphys (water carriers) and how that became an expression for sprinkling a bit of bullshit into the facts. There's actually an old Furphy cart that proudly sits outside HQ Building at Kapooka (recruit training hq). Sig corp have some truly funny and delightful stories of pranks pulled on Yanks during all the wars lol. Makes ya proud to be an Aussie.

"Bluey" is a guy with red hair, "the wogs got him crook" he's sick with cold/flu, "he's chucking a wobbly" is a tantrum, "and if the brass don't send a tinny of the good stuff" can of beer, "he's gonna go troppo before smoko" he's going to lose his shit, get angry before its lunch time!

As an Aussie you know when someone is not Australian when you talk to them because they actually just nod and smile and you instantly know to talk slower and use proper words like afternoon instead of Arvo for example.
