The most important thing that was said here is that the public will not care if it’s a human or AI producing the report. (At 19:00) And AI doesn’t need to be perfect or even better than humans if it’s significantly faster and cheaper for the population as a whole. That’s the scary part for the future of radiologists. Yes, a human expert combined with AI would be the most accurate setup but who’s going to want to pay for that if AI on its own (or with minimal oversight) is good enough and much cheaper.

The person who says radiology can be replaced by AI should be to radiology department in any hospital and see that radiology department cannot be drawn by AI as there are so many patients to attend, and every patient has different demands to attend and the entire surgical departments depends on radiology department. From what I understand, the radiologist will always have to attend patients inperson. They can get assisted by AI, but cannot be replaced at all.

"Back to the future promised us flying cars by the early 2000s", what a way to start a conversation, thinking that what you see in sci-fi movies are well-reasoned scientific predictions. You can almost completely dismiss everything he has to say after that comment.

Nothing you say here disprove the obvious conclusion that less radiologists will be needed soon. Leading to a soft job market and lower compensation. Long before they are completely obsolete.

What does “deliver better value to our patients” mean? You mention that as a way to protect radiologists job but radiologist do radiology, that’s what they do. There is nothing more they can provide unless they do procedures, which a lot of radiologists to not do.

Machine learning all starts as humans teaching/guiding AI, but then after a certain threshold, it surpasses humans pretty fast…

AI takeover is imminent. Just ask any coder who happens to be dual trained in healthcare…

I’m an M2 interested in radiology but I’m becoming much more interested in learning computer science and coding, any advice? Should I attempt to learn these skills or should I just stick to medicine?

Bottom line it’s a matter of time before the public is comfortable with getting a report from AI. Radiologists are screwed eventually. If lucky maybe 15-20 years before that happens

You may have driven that route 100 times but the AI has data on 1 million cars driving that route. And your perceived “inside knowledge” is nothing compared to the AI’s vastly larger experience. Your kids are right. Follow the AI’s advise will statistically be more accurate than your own experience.
