The ultra processed food is all subsidized by our taxes. We still subsidize soy and corn. Move these subsidies to support healthy farming techniques and healthy food production and you will fix the consumption issue without the need to ban anything. That being said - it will be impossible without overturning one way or another the Citizens United. Because big corps will never allow cancellations of the subsidies that make them ultra rich at our health expense

I am 68 and rarely even have a cold, have never had surgery other than for a 50 year old gymnastics foot injury, and I can still hold a handstand without a wall for 1 minute. The best thing I ever did for my health was to live in Japan for 20 years and retire to Europe where there are no processed foods and socializing and walking is an essential part of life.

49:00 - Nope. Get employers out of healthcare. No-one should suffer the stress of having their employer involved in their healthcare.

Friends and Family is one of the biggest factors in blue zones. Kara, again you are so RIGHT!

My mother died healthy at 106.having emerged from stubborn confusion to play bridge well enough to astonish a Junior Grandmaster by the quality of her bridge just a few weeks before.
At 90, having dealt with ME from my 50’s and rendered bedridden by a stroke from 2023, I an otherwise healthy and expect to be around for a while yet.
I’m in the UK, so my absolute poverty is not a cause for worry.
As long as I an pain-free, I would disagree that a life which includes managing a physical disability is necessarily unrewarding. With the right friends and interesting family, it continues to be quite good fun!

One big problem is even though many doctors want to help you as best they can, are forced to do costly and unnecessary test by medical groups and hospitals they work for. The same hospitals and medical groups that have charity tax status because they claim religiousaffiliation, but are actually mostly owned and controlled by equity firms.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciated this episode! I’ve been incensed by the grifting and misinformation about health.

The scientific community can help by opening up good research from behind paywalls. WHO the F(&k would pay $48 for a peer-reviewed research article?

I used to be a health writer, and it was so frustrating when I was trying to write about the latest research on certain health issues but couldn’t get beyond the paywall. Meanwhile, bloggers and social media influencers will misread or misinform, saying “they (scientists) aren’t telling you…”

🤯 Amazing - Great info. You both are an amazing combo: the Reese’s Cups of tech & medical! 2 of my fav writers/teachers, I’ve followed you both for years. New podcast you & Topol someday? 🙏 Data driven tech & medicine which have true benefits to society.

I have the utmost respect for Dr. Topol. And, I credit Peter Attia for introducing me to the concept of health span many years ago. I'm not throwing out the baby with the bathwater. When the health writers in the 1970's went on about the dangers of inflammation most people shrugged their shoulders and thought they were nuts. I'm happy that inflammation is finally getting more attention.

Excellent interview. I've been following Dr. Topol since the pandemic and he is great. Another you tube channel I like is Dr. Gil Carvalho's Nutrition Made Simple. His content is based on close analysis of legitimate research (I believe he is a research scientist) and he does not use any promotions or sell products.
