Oh for the days when anything was possible and to be different - rather than conform to a bland algorithm - was an end in itself. I'm old now, but glad I lived through a golden age of popular music.

indie records had been around a long time before this - in the blues, r'n'b, jazz, folk worlds. this is just when punk discovered the idea.

How exciting it was to get that Buzzcocks single „Everybody’s Happy Nowadays“ that had a secret message scratched next to the label: „A Porky Prime Cut“ ( that was a trend for some time) and the B side „Why Can’t I Touch It“ had „Touch What?“ as a comment scratched into the vinyl- plus: first 5mm of the vinyl were missing 😊 I still have it

Chris Squire & Alan White or Steve Howe of Yes plus Jerry Sheppard & John Springate from Glitter Band all claim to have gone to see the Sex Pistols during their early days purely to see what the fuss was all about.
