Better Call Saul left several questions unanswered, and this video walks through the gaps the prequel never closed, from Saul Goodman's unseen second wife to the fate of Werner Ziegler's construction crew.
This is a long-form sleep video that examines the parts of Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad that were deliberately left in shadow. It covers the constraints Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould worked under when writing toward an ending that Breaking Bad had already fixed in place, and the loose threads that survived six seasons without resolution. The pacing is slow and the narration is steady, designed to be listened to rather than watched. Each section takes one unresolved detail and follows it through both series.
What's covered in this video:
The pilot episode "Uno" opens with a black-and-white flash-forward of Gene managing a Cinnabon in a shopping mall in Omaha, Nebraska, showing the ending before the story begins.
Vince Gilligan admits he assumed a prequel would be easy to write because everyone knew where it winds up, later calling that a case of the writers deluding themselves, and describing the work as steering a supertanker toward a point already set in stone.
The Breaking Bad episode "Green Light" has Saul mention a second wife to Walter White, a throwaway line implying a first marriage that Better Call Saul never accounts for, which Gilligan says bedeviled the writers.
Kim Wexler is never named or seen in Breaking Bad, so Peter Gould and the writers had no fixed endpoint for her, unlike Jimmy McGill and Mike Ehrmantraut.
Mike kills Werner Ziegler in "Winner" after letting him call his wife Margarethe, then the German construction crew is paid off and vanishes from the story without any shown debriefing or threat.
The crew's tension is established earlier when Casper backs a front-loader into a support beam and fights Kai, and season six's "Axe and Grind" shows Casper alive and working in Germany.
Gus Fring hides a gun in an excavator in "Black and Blue" and uses it to kill Lalo Salamanca in "Point and Shoot," in the unfinished superlab beneath the laundromat.
Lalo and Howard Hamlin are buried in the same grave under the lab floor, meaning Walter White and Jesse Pinkman cook directly above them for two seasons.
Saul names Lalo and Ignacio once, at gunpoint, in the Breaking Bad episode "Better Call Saul," and the names are never explained there.
The Cousins, Marco and Leonel Salamanca, crawl to a Santa Muerte shrine in "No Más," behead Tortuga in "I.F.T.," and are shown as boys in the 1988 flashback in "One Minute," where Hector holds Marco's head underwater and declares that family is everything.
That same flashback plants Hector's contempt for the man he calls the Chicken Man, later revealed to be Gustavo Fring.
Chuck McGill's electromagnetic hypersensitivity appears only in Better Call Saul, and "Alpine Shepherd Boy" shows a doctor secretly switching on his hospital bed with no reaction, while his later exposure therapy with Dr. Cruz still leaves the question open.
