I feel like 'you're not ugly you're just poor' was initially meant to mean 'normal people look normal, we can't compare ourselves to celebrities who have paid to look unnaturally perfect in all their pictures' - but it was eventually turned into a pretty problematic association of poor people being ugly lol, like that is a throwback to 19th century class eugenics

I think what I hate most about “beauty maintenance” is the conflation of required grooming, beauty grooming, and hygiene. People conflate them so much they start thinking beauty grooming is hygiene. Like shaving or using fragranced products.

My version of "high maintenance to be low maintenance" is remembering to fill my weekly pill dispenser so I'm not opening 15 bottles every morning and night all week. XD

I grew up with a mom in corporate America and she did a full face of makeup, nice suits, hair, nails all of it. I work in the plant sciences and the amount of sucessful women with ZERO makeup, undyed grey hair, and younger women also bare faced and not shaving. Honestly it's great to see women openly aging and being experts in their field. And not needing to be gussied up to be taken seriously as a professional.

it makes me so sad when i hear people (especially younger girls) refer to their natural state as "ugly" or "unkempt". idc if it's makeup, extensions, cosmetic procedures or whatever else, nobody should need all that to feel good

Treat it like your job?!? Girl, if someone wants to pay me a living wage just to look hot I’ll consider it. But in this day and age that only exists if you are willing to submit to a loveless relationship and I’m not about that life!

I stopped wearing makeup in grad school because of ✨depression✨ and I got used to the way my face looked without it. And now that I'm no longer horribly depressed and have a job I love, I still don't wear makeup. Part of it is that I don't feel like spending time that I could be sleeping on that or my hair, but it also cannot be understated how much the fact that basically all of my female coworkers do not wear makeup, and most of the time I hang out with friends we are playing a sport and no one puts on makeup to do that. It is so much easier to do less when people around you do less
