When the empath finally stops absorbing everything, that quiet strength turns into unstoppable force. The shift from overgiving to self-respect is where real power begins.

As a empath I learned from therapy that "I'm done with this shit. I'm no longer available for everyone".

The challenge with being an empath is the desire to belong, which never really leaves a person. Our empathic, whole-self tribe is spread throughout the world and we as loners who bear a light in the darkness rarely find one another. An ironic tragedy.

My mom is a narcissist and I experienced this exact thing growing up. She would pull me into her room and shut the door then tell me all the stuff going on in her life while crying and expecting me to make her feel better. I was the only kid in the family who even knew my parents were considering a divorce when I was in elementary school. One night I had a dream where I was talking to a therapist and she told me I had suppressed anger issues. I woke up furious realizing I had never been allowed to process my own emotions. Then one day when my mom tried to pull me in for a talk again, I stopped her partway in and said "I'm your daughter, not your therapist." she was very cruel to me after that day. I myself have never felt so whole and accepting of myself and my flaws. There is genuinely nothing anyone can say about me that will upset me anymore, because I know I'm enough.

The more generous you are in anything the more some people will leech out from you.

All I can think of is limited help or even say "no" if it affects you adversely. Help, but not at the cost of yourself too much.

I'm 61. I was in stage 1 for 55 years; caring, agreeable and available.
Stage 2 for 5 years; the realization that you were nothing more to them than a free lunch, a servant, a mule.
Now, at 61, I've just entered the 3rd stage; enough is enough. I finally know my worth.
I finally put myself and my needs first. Because there's nothing left for them to extract, the toxic narcissists around you all disappeared.
I would describe this stage as floating peacefully through space. Utter silence from outside and from within. The noises around you all have disappeared. The voices inside your head have all stopped.
It's a very strange and beautiful experience.

If they can't handle a simple conversation or a true answer on my part without becoming offended and accusational, then I'm out. One of the most annoying aspects of a narc, is their fake tone and speech as if they feel it is a type of game to be won.

The empath doesn’t become dangerous by learning cruelty — they become dangerous by integrating consciousness, where manipulation no longer has a place to land.

I chose peace over drama. Silence, quite and peaceful environment for growth instead of drama, thriller and fighting.
