It's funny to think that, around almost ten years ago, the entire Undertale community saw Gaster as, well, kind of a boogieman and a scapegoat for everything unexplainable... and now here he is, sailing the seven seas and pirating Undertale or something. What a timeline we live in.

That one bit of info on Chara is true though. You don’t have to sell your soul to Chara, but if you want to return from the black void at the end of the Genocide Route, Chara cuts you a deal. Your soul given to them and they will bring it all back if you want to return so badly to the world you destroyed.<br><br>So Gaster could reasonably say that Chara bought your soul and would not be lying. That bit wasn’t fanon. The “pin all the blame on Chara” idea is the bit which is fanon.
