You can’t use shields in the open desert because they call worms and drive them into a killing frenzy. This is why they never have shields in the desert scenes

The Bene Gesserit ran a centuries-long breeding program to produce a male who could access genetic memory across both male and female bloodlines, something no Bene Gesserit woman could do. That male would be the Kwisatz Haderach. Their plan was for Jessica to bear a daughter, who would then marry Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, and their son would be the one. Reverend Mother Mohiam spells this out in Dune Part One. Jessica broke the plan. She loved Duke Leto and gave him a son instead. Then she trained Paul in Bene Gesserit ways, which is why he's already having visions early in the first film. He wasn't supposed to exist yet. He was one generation ahead of schedule, and that's exactly why the Bene Gesserit fear him. He's the product they were building toward, just uncontrolled and early.

Lisan al-Gaib is something else entirely. It's not a real prophecy, it's a myth the Bene Gesserit planted in Fremen culture over generations to make the population receptive to whoever they eventually sent. A pre-installed savior story. Paul uses it, but he didn't fulfill it in any genuine sense. He just fit the description well enough that the Fremen believed it. Two different things. One is a genetic and biological reality. The other is manufactured religion used as a political tool.

Gurney was a spice smuggler, he never worked with the Harkonnens, and he never would have since they killed his family lol

Igli will always be my lisan al-gaib, especially since he has the most letters in common

Haven’t seen anyone mention that it’s forbidden for pregnant Bene Gesserit to undergo the spice agony and become Reverend Mothers because doing so also awakens the consciousness of the fetus.

So when Paul’s sister is born, she will already be a Reverend Mother in a sense. She won’t have the normal opportunity to develop her own identity and sense of self because she’ll be born with the memories and consciousness of countless ancestors already inside her.

That’s… not good.

As usual, Igli gets it. It's a tragedy that Paul ultimately has to become the thing he didn't want to be and Chani has every right to be angry at how her planet and people continue to be used. His actions up to this point are justified as the Emperor and Harkennons murdered his whole House. But, starting a war against the others houses / planets......that's dark. Roll on December for Dune 3!

Austin Butler steals every single scene he’s in as Feyd Rautha. He was amazing in this movie.

Gurney wasn't working for the Harkonens or the Emperor. He became a spice smuggler. And work was good because Paul was systematically destroying the Harkonen spice trade.

Bene Gesserit women often don't know who their parents are, once they're born the Bene Gesserit claim the daughters. Or, if they are highborn daughters they might stay/return to their family like Princess Irulan.

Chani and the Fremen have been oppressed by colonizers for millennia. Paul came as a foreigner and promised he wouldn’t use the prophecy to manipulate her people and not only has he had to break that promise, he’s using it to lead her people not into just liberation but into a galactic war they shouldn’t even be a part of.

54:00 It's 'illegal' to use atomics against another House. Paul used them to blow up the mountains known as the Shield Wall so he technically didn't break any laws
