  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IINLFwvSTF8&amp;t=1332">22:12</a> the Qing Dynasty did not have a system of primogeniture or any « line of succession » in the European tradition. Instead, each emperor nominated his successor from amongst his sons, or, if he did not have any sons, from amongst the wider imperial dynasty. Puyi, while in captivity in Siberia, did nominate a successor, and that was Yuyan (毓嵒), who was the great grandson of Yicong (奕誴), the Prince Dun and 5th son of the Daoguang Emperor. Therefore, if we are to adhere to tradition, it was Yuyan who became « head of the imperial house » after Puyi died. Yuyan had several sons so the line continues from amongst his descendants.

  I think it is important to note that, despite the different dynasties, most of China&apos;s dynasties up to the Song dynasty involved queens and concubines from the same 10 noble clans of ancient China as they were required political marriages to legitimise these dynastic houses. Therefore, they were all connected to some degree through matrilineal descent. Only one noble clan ever produced emperors from the patrilineal line and it was Hongnong Yang clan who was the royal house of the Sui Dynasty. Later Tang Dynasty emperors all trace their lineage matrilineally from that clan after Wu Zetian as her mother was from that clan. Would be fun if you guys ever did a chart from that angle.
