I'm surprised that when asked about "inspiring" quotes, this one was not referenced...my favorite and explained so much....<br>Galadriel:<br>Mithrandir... why the Halfling?<br>Gandalf:<br>...I don't know. Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. I've found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I am afraid... and he gives me courage.

Sauron did know that frodo put the ring on at mount doom in the books. One of the best written passages in the books is Sauron feeling it and realizing exactly how bad he fucked up "the Magnitude of his own folly was revealed to h in a Blinding Flash!" Just before sending the nazgul "hurtling towards mount doom" and the rest of saurons host wavered for a moment for in that moment "they were forgotten"

Re: Sauron getting the sigil of the Southland Kings, it seemed implied when he said he took it from a dead man that he meant 1,000 years ago he killed the last southlander king personally and has kept the sigil available since.

Gandalf suspected about Bilbo’s Ring since the beginning. <br>Later on, when he already had more suspicions about It being the One Ring, he still thought it would be better to leave it secretly hidden in the Shire.<br>He only get certain of it being the One Ring when he throws It into Frodo’s hearth, and they see the markings. <br>After that, he goes to find counsel with Saruman and gets trapped there, but before that, he tried to warn Frodo to leave as soon as he can (but Barliman Butterbur forgets to send his letter).
