As a repair shop owner, i have a transparency policy where i encourage my customers to watch us fix their stuff so they know what they pay for. Privacy is everything these days and if you're a fellow repair shop owner or employee, i humbly request you to do so too. People's trust is what's been helping my business and i will try my best to earn it every single day

That's why Samsung developed a game-changing feature of "Maintenance mode" to avoid the people in repair shops sneak in and transfer your personal and private files to them, and they really nailed it when it comes to the privacy while it's repairing. Hopefully other brands will follow it too.

At this rate, you should give limelight to that one shop that repairs laptops yet didn't snoop at all.

36:27 I like how Steven got a bodyguard with tatoo to go with him to confront the most serious shop at the end. 🤣

"just playful sometimes?" he even named the folder as "yeah" and he definitely knew what he was going to do. probably didn't even get rid of the USB files after being confronted and will share the photos among his circle. i hope the shop has fired that technician.

This needs to be exposed to people. It's very important. As an IT professional, I'm extra paranoid when sending my devices for repair, whether it's to a reputable repair shop or an official partner, because humans are flawed and there’s always a chance they might do something inappropriate.

This happened to me years ago. I had a technician come over to my house to repair my PC. So while he worked on my device, I worked on some house chores as well but checked on him every 10-15mins. When I was done, I went back to the room where he was in and noticed him copying my pictures to his USB. He didn't realize that I was standing behind him while he was doing that. I didn't confront him right off the bat, I observed first. When he said he's got everything fixed, and was about to leave, that's when I asked him why he copied my pictures. The look on his face was priceless, it's like he saw a ghost but still tried to compose himself and asked back "what pictures?".

Then i asked him to plug back his USB coz i wanted to see the contents of it, he said it was just a mistake. It's creepy as hell and a bit traumatic i must say

As an IT guy I would always ask whoever that sends their device in for repairs to sit down with me to see the repair process. For task that requires data recovery I would give them a print screen of files that they require for recovery and copy the recovered files into their provided external drives. Ethics are very important for IT tech if you're looking to go far in your career. The temptation to snoop around is there when we're bored but we resist it as we don't like to take the blame for anything that goes wrong with their files or data at a later date.
