My dad gave my mom, my sister, and me each a Christmas corsage. I'm 75 now, still have it, and I place it on my tree every year. I'm tearing up writing this. Those were the days of simple pleasures that meant so much. ❤

The stores waited past Halloween to put Christmas things on display. I miss that.

Christmas meant so much more back then. Stores, garages, restaurants etc were all closed. Gifts were few but more appreciated. ( I remember getting excited over new mittens). Families all got together, visiting everyone's houses. So much love and kindness,so much gratitude back then. The greed and commercialization of today is a disgrace 😢

In 1968 I was stationed at Keesler AFB MS. I was really homesick at Christmas and decided to get a tree to set up in my barracks room. Me and three other girls went down to a 5&10( remember those) store in Biloxi and I found a small flocked tree for $8.00 with a stand! I bought that and some pink Christmas balls. Since we couldn’t use lights on it we bought one of those rotating wheels! I set it up in my barracks room and the entire barracks came to my room on Christmas🎄 morning bringing presents they had received from home, cookies, brownies and fudge that had been sent, and we all celebrated Christmas together. No, it wasn’t home but we were family none the less and this took away some of the loneliness and heartache of being away! My squadron Commander even stopped by and gave us all a small stocking filled with candy! That was 57 years ago but I still have that little stocking and put it out each year!😢😢😢. 🎄

The change from using the Christmas catalogue to online shopping is great example of how improvements don’t always make things better. We lost so much.

I remember that Christmas was advertised the day after Thanksgiving not in July like nowadays. There was an innocents in those days that made all holidays special. Nowadays it's all about the dollars that has become important. So sad these younger generations have missed out on what made the holidays so special!

Sears...K-Mart...Woolworths...Christmas Parades....Caroling....Nativity Displays...all still fresh in my mind. I'm 73 & still start on mailing cards w/e of Thanksgiving. NO Black Friday or Football Worship.

I remember our Christmas stockings were filled with candy canes and a variety of hard candy in multicolored wrappers and small toys like jacks or model cars, etc ❤🎄☃❄✨⭐

As my 91 year old father was laying in his death bed he woke up just to say "we have lived in the best of times" I had to agree. He was born in 1930 on a small family farm that he spent his entire life working. I think of those words every day.
