My wife drives GLA45 AMG or over 10 years, still has under 50k miles, has all aero bits on 20inch BBS wheels, she refuses to get rid of it, such a fun pocket rocket machine

The reason the value of the previous gen (2004) R32 is so much higher than the mark V is because of the transmission. The original 2004 VW R32 had a 6 speed manual that made the car SO much fun to drive. To most, the 2008 R32 was a downgrade because it went DSG only.

I’ve experienced many fun Mercedes over the years. 93 500E, CLK55 Cab, E320 Cabriolet, SL600, 2001 E55 AMG, E320 Lorinser wagon - loved them all. The E500 & E320 Cab were both great, but enjoyed them more for nostalgia than driving experience. The CLK55 Cab had the best sound, roar & fun driving experience.
