No open ocean, no coastlines—a solid white sphere. And this isn't a fantasy: proof has been found in tropical rocks, where no glacier could have formed. Traces of glacial resurfacing in 700-million-year-old rocks, at a latitude where today's jungles are. Today's guest is geochemist Andrey Bychkov. We discussed how the Earth became the Earth: what it was made of, why it didn't cool, and where its water came from. What happened during the collision with Theia, the object that formed the Moon? Are there volcanoes that spew water instead of lava? How old is oil, and can its formation be accelerated in the lab? And what trace will humanity leave in the geological record—what will future geologists find in a hundred million years?
