I am from Louisiana. Many people have the misconception that Creole is light-skin only. There are very dark skinned creoles with long straight hair down their backs. My friend is one of them. My grandmother was mistaken for white when my grandfather met her. She told him that she was 'colored'. Louisiana has a beautiful rich history of culture and traditions. It surpasses skin color.

Imagine giving birth 15 times. Thats torture, and without an epidural and she was a slave.

As a Louisiana Creole, thank you for sharing our rich and complex historical heritage. So many people never quite understand that we are a such a unique culture that exists within the US from our genetic makeup to zydeco music and cuisine. I truly appreciate this story… ❤❤

My Grandmother ( born in 1871) was Creole, my Grandfather was Spanish, they both spoke French, Spanish and broken English. My Grandmother was an illiterate domestic who raised 7 children after my young Grandfather passed. No electricity, raised chickens and food to feed her children.
She then moved to New Orleans, where I was born and raised, my Grandmother lived with us and she taught me my prayers in French.
So many of us down in South Louisiana have a very diverse heritage.
I am now a Great Grandmother of 4. I think I may be one of the last living people that still remember men with horse drawn wagons going down the street. That modest home I grew in was very near Audubon Park.

I am a Creole from Louisiana! My grandmother and grandfather were both Creole. My grandmother and grandfather were light skinned and my dad was very dark skinned. I am light skinned and my sister is dark skinned. Creoles come in all colors. I speak Creole and French fluently!
