Life for this sadistic murderer should mean LIFE! 18 years would mean that he would be under 40 if they release him. I hope that he's still rotting in jail. RIP Naomi and my thoughts with her family and friends.

18 is a minimum - and once released he is on 'lifetime licence' which means authorities would be able to take him back to prison immediately (more or less without trial) if he stepped out of line during the rest of his life. Actually he spent over 26 years before parole was granted; and the conditions set on him were claimed to be "tough". They probably (I don't know) involved keeping in touch with authorities and non-contact with certain associates and/or victim's family. There may have also been requirements not to drink or use drugs, not to visit the actual town and so on. Again, I don't know - but whatever they were, he couldn't resist breaking them and he was taken back to prison within 4 weeks. Presumably he now has to go through the process of applying for parole again (the gap between applications is usually measured in years). Next time the parole board will also have the extra info that he couldn't be trusted with his first chance.
