I'd like to say regarding Nintendo and Rare. Rare as a company was bleeding talent during the Nintendo 64 era, the company wasn't the most friendly with it's employee and people were leaving in droves before Microsoft bought them. A lot of the talent had left and I think Nintendo saw it was time to let them go before they became a liability. And looking at what they produced on Microsoft's systems, they made the right choice. None of their games outside of Viva Piñata came close to the critical and commercial heights during the SNES and Nintendo 64 eras. The founders also left and while Rare still exists, it's just a name now.
