It was around the 60 hour mark that the combat finally "clicked" for me. Now at 90 hours, I'm STARTING to get it.

Such a great game about 150 hours in and it’s still getting better for me. It’s unreal.

I don't think they made any mistakes. They made choices. They made hard choices. You cannot make everybody happy. If they had made everybody feel comfortable in the first 6 hours they will have created horizon 3.

The abyss is supposed to be mysterious. Discovering what it's about is a driving part of the plot.

The mechanics are described just as well as any souls like. View the skill tree It tells you what buttons to push, push them.
The mistake is in the personalities that give up on a project five or six hours in. The people who can't focus long enough to figure something out. This is the future of our world. People that can't make something happen, giving up after only 5 or 6 hours.

Congratulations to all of you who are enjoying the game with me.

Anyone still starting out and struggling with the game should take a stroll over to the near by slave operated mining quarry. I've been enjoying the game off and on with not a lot of time to play, but then the other night I finally stepped outside of the starting town's area on some quest line to fight bandits and stumbled upon the slave mining operation just outside of the starting zone. It's dumb, it's simple, it probably won't be everyone's preference, but I easily spent over an hour in an all out brawl and finally, the game's combat systems (early as I am at just chapter 2) started clicking, and I just dug in. Endless enemies, not just thrown at you like in COD, but guarding the road out to try and kill your horse or the slaves you've freed, an entire battalion of low rent troops line the walls, sniper towers, minor elites that can actually get the better of you, and random support soldiers just running up out of nowhere to help defend the innocent NPC's in the area... A little bit of everything. I loved how the fresh troops didn't just spawn around you like a dynasty warrior either, but spawned from deeper in and at any point you could find more snipers taking point all round you, or new fighters rushing you from multiple angles but from a decent distance. I've barely scratched surface and already the game is showing me things I didn't know I needed - no one waited their turn, the spacing made sense, they acted in unison like an angry hive mind, but it's not like you get rushed the whole time either. After a while it felt a little like everyone spawning in was exhausted already, the more combos and power moves I figured out the more fear they showed, and once I understood it was an objective based endless spawn area, I relaxed a bit and just started playin with the physics ending my run with some really stand out moments. The game is clunky, no question, but it's not aimless, real thought went into these locations, these mechanics, these combat systems, the enemy movements... It sounds odd, but in many ways it felt like it was the least video ass video game I've played in a good long while - Anyway, I don't know if I'll ever finish it, but the little things really help it stand out.

This is a perfect summary of what Crimson Desert truly IS! Yes, IS(Capitalized on purpose). When I got out of my own way and started "playing", the game opened up and revealed something amazing. I loved when you said the map was quiet and invited invitation. That was a beautiful assessment of it. I love finding unexplored ruins and groups of bandits or bad guys. I get led into traps and I get led into loot. So much fun!! I would recommend this video to anyone struggling with the start of Crimson Desert!! Liked and subbed.

Awesome video. Everything you said is very true about this game. I'm at 400 hours now and I'm so happy with this game. It has scratched an itch I've had for 10 years with gaming. No holding your hand. Just true exploration in an open world. Played since day 1 and the dev team are beasts putting out patches and qol updates. Hands down my new favorite game and I'll probably be playing for a long time unless they release crimson desert 2 in the near future. Pearl Abyss nailed this.

Easiest way to enjoy the game right out the gate and get into the rhythm right away, for new players, right away just wander off. Find your way to main quest after a bit but just go start unlocking the map.

This is truly the best take on Crimson Desert. Well done, you seriously get it and really fundamentally nail what is unique about Crimson Desert. You have also helped me understand Crimson Desert more fully.

I've had a very strong feeling that Crimson Desert is a paradigm shift in gaming (Yes, hyperbolic I know). But, this is the ground work for this. Crimson Desert has a LOT of things to fix. However, they have landed on a foundation of true innovation, beyond that which the devs even realized, when they started.

It is almost indefinable. But everyone talks about the "feeling" of playing it when you "get it". This "feeling" is very difficult to describe to someone if they don't get it. But the "feeling" is what gaming and fantasy is all about.

Fascinating to watch the discussion and I truly believe the industry will learn a massive amount from Crimson Desert to the benefit of Gamers but also helping Developers claw back the development enjoyment and creativity that has been destroyed due $ considerations.

Just let the Devs cook.

This is probably the best overall video I’ve seen on Crimson Desert. TBH I’m still trying to wrap my head around this game after 60 hours, but I can tell a lot of what you say is true and I’m here for it.

I found out what build I want to play the game with, but the reblockade system isn’t in the game yet, so I started a new game (haven’t played the beginning in 300 hours of gameplay. The beginning hit me with nostalgia just playing again 😭
