  Lived in Thailand for 7 years and eat street food 4-ish nights per week. Never had the slightest hygiene issue in that time

  having just returned, the best mistake to avoid is eating in high end western restaurants.. for example we ate at a steakhouse which was average and with wine, paid £70 a head..... we ate at local Thai restaurants for £6/£7 inc drinks and the food was superb

  After my wife getting sick in Egypt and Thailand we made one small change that made a big difference.<br>We carry antiseptic wipes and gel, before eating we sanitise our hands with gel and wipe cutlery with the wipes, my reasoning is just before eating we have handled money that many others too have handled and you don’t know where it has been, I think there is more chance of picking up an illness from the money than the food.<br>Neither of us have got sick since we started doing this and we visit Thailand every year sometimes twice a year and eat lots of street food.<br>Good Luck.

  I&apos;m Thai. I love this video. You have covered all local tricks most Thai people know and are aware of. One thing I want to add is to be extra careful not only water (bottled water is fine) but also ice. Some street food vendors often use unhygienic ice and that&apos;s one the main reasons my foreign friends got bangkok belly.

  If you buy a bottle of water at a market, open it yourself. They may open it for you or pretend to crack the seal for you. It may not be a fresh un-opened bottle. Sometimes the use old bottles and fill them with water from the tap.

  I was in Thailand last July. I ate street food every day and was fine. I ate at the hotel ONCE and immediately got food poisoning. I managed to get through it in about 12 hours. I love the tiny restaurants hidden around the cities. I can not wait to go back again this year.

  Good Advice. I always do that, everything cooked in front of you, no fresh vegetables, salads and prepared fruits, no drinks prepared except bottled water or other flavored drinks. You have zero to very slim chances of getting sick. You will enjoy your travel more. For fresh mangoes and papaya I will buy them whole, wash and eat in the hotel room.
