We used to sing this song in our class when I was about 5 years old and it&apos;s one of the earliest songs I remember listening to.

  I really enjoyed watching this, thank you for posting! I was in a bar once while stationed in Germany in the 80&apos;s, and a lone singer with a guitar was set up in a corner performing. He started singing this song and the whole bar crowd started singing along enthusiastically and loudly. Every German person knew the words! Being from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and a little homesick, it brought tears to my eyes.

  I wish John could see this. Later in his career he did an interview and lamented that he was no longer on the music charts. He said something to the effect of, &quot;I still have important things to say. I just wish people would listen to them. Through new technologies, John, they are listening. And they love what you had to say.

  In 7th grade our principal was a tough nun from West Virginia. At the end of the school year, she was being re-assigned. Our teacher taught us this song covertly and we sang it to her acapella on the last day. Ten seconds in she was bawling like a baby. I appreciate that moment much more now than I did at 13.

  Even John Denver himself was surprised by the reach this song had. While visiting remote villages in Indian and Africa, they not only knew who he was but knew the words and sang the song.
