  Raised to believe my birth mother was my sister, and my grandmother was my mother. I found out the truth at the age of 18. It wasn’t the situation that nearly destroyed me mentally, it was the lies and finding out your life was a charade. Everyone playing a part. Please don’t lie to your kids!

  Society was unbelievably cruel to unmarried mothers or young girls. They were cruelly shamed and shunned as were the children.

  I find it so sad that adults do such things to children and not realize the repercussions.  They think it’s just their life but it isnt.

  Unfortunately dna relatives don't always want you like in my case. It's interesting to know where you came from. I am very happy for their happy outcomes, though! 😊

  I wasn't ever told I was adopted. I foound out at age 52 when I did an ancestry DNA test. I had done genealogical research my entire life and my family knew but still never told me. Extended family knew. Neighbors knew. But yhey didn’t tell me. Where I live the State reissues a birth certificate when you are adopted so your adoptive parents and their info replace the birth parents information. I'm not upset with anyone. They did what they thought was best.  BUT... you would think someone would say something.

  My grandmother had passed away and then my dad‘s sister passed away, he was 75 at the time. His niece and his nephew took him aside and said their mothers will would be split three ways and he asked why? They told him that his sister was actually his mother and they were actually his blood brother and sister! Imagine finding this out at 75 years old?? His whole world turned upside down. He was sad but he never really talked about it. He was born in 1927 and you just didn’t have kids out of wedlock back then.

  Friend told me he went to his parents to get his birth certificate at 17. His parents sent him up the road to see the neighbour as these people are his real parents. <br><br>What happen? He was the 9th child and his mother handed him over to this childless couple down the road. He grew up playing with his siblings and he did not know. There was no adoption this was 40 years ago. He told me he had a great life. His real mum got to see him grow up in a loving caring family.

  My mother didn&apos;t travel internationally until she was 35 years old. &nbsp;When she got her birth certificate from her parents it wasn&apos;t even her name! My grandfather had taken work doing accounting for liquor suppliers during prohibition and had taken on an alias!
