There is nothing like hitting the hotel gym at 2am because your body is in another timezone and the only other people in the gym are also pilots.

I’m a physician who can relate to the negative aspects of your job as a pilot. I also have an aviation license and found there is more work to flying than enjoyment. Pilots and flight attendants deserve more money than their company executives!!! I don’t know how you all can stand sitting and flying long hours in a plane , dealing with noise, strange environments, jet lag, boredom, loneliness, irregular hours. Cheers to all of you who make us safe in the air.

The value I derived from this video is seeing someone else in the airline industry talking candidly about fatigue, which I too still struggle with. It’s rare for other pilots I operate with to talk about this, perhaps feeling that it makes them look β€˜weak’.

I spent a LOT of time, money, energy, emotion, and hard work to become an airline pilot. The problem is that I was born 30 years too late or 30 years too early. Pilots were a dime a dozen in the 1980s and 90s. I finally decided I liked to eat more than I liked to fly. The universe kept telling me I wasn't going to be an airline pilot. Fortunately I'm smart enough to (finally) listen to it, and I went a different way. I ended up as a nurse anesthesiologist (if you want to talk about stressful jobs), making way more money than I could have as a pilot.

I am a german Air Traffic Controller and back in the days, I applied for both: The job as a controller and as a pilot. I had the test for controllers before the pilots test and I got the job. From a gut feeling I canceled the pilots test and became an ATCO. And I never regretted it. Even though, it is a stressfull job, shift work, etc. I always drive home to my family. Having a family now, that is even more important. Still, I love watching pilot POV videos, I am a flight sim enthusiast, but I love my job "on the other side of the mic"

I quit the regionals after 11 years. Everything you said is accurate. I don’t miss it much

As a former frontline police officer who worked shifts I can really relate to everything you've said here. Thank you for sharing and it was only when I was landing a B737-400 in a simulator that I fully understood and appreciated the massive stress and workload of a pilot.

So much kudos and respect to you and your colleagues.

Thank you for your honesty. You seem like an intuitive pilot with good insights who would be fun and safe to fly with.

I'm line maintenance, I feel sorry for pilots when an issue grounds the plane when they are about to push back, it is stressful for everyone involved and really makes for a bad day for all.
