My departed mother tells me the story of when she saw this as a little girl of 7 and she cried so badly my grandfather had to take her to the lobby and calm her down telling her it was just a made up story before returning to the auditorium. This film had a world shattering impact on the arts akin to the internet on our modern lives.

This movie feels like a mix of a sound film and a silent film.

Love Jolson! A real moment in history. Just the beginning of changes, not complete, but the start. Talkies would inprove in leaps and bounds in short time, and unfortunately, kill vaudeville. Such is evolution. ❤

I've heard about this historic film all my life. Finally, I was able to see it here. Very enjoyable, and I can see why it was such a groundbreaking hit.

I searched this up and apparently this is the first ever film with audio. It is also what the title means by the first talking movie ever.

This show tugs at a hard chord, coming from a son who was raised without a father figure, long deceased early in childhood. Leaves a lump in my throat! Not a smarmy or maudlin reflex, but one of authentic empathy! You feel a haunting longing and dejection, at the same time. Like he missed out, as I missed out!
