  A speed sensor with three wires is Hall effect and a totally different thing to a two wire &nbsp; sensor.<br>You would be better off grabbing the correct sensor for the vehicle and mounting it to the drive shaft with some magnets <br><br>Two-wire speed sensors are primarily categorized into passive (Variable Reluctance) and active (Hall Effect/Magnetoresistive) types, distinguished by their power requirements and signal output.<br><br>Passive Sensors: These are self-powered, generating an AC voltage signal that increases in amplitude and frequency as rotational speed increases. &nbsp;They consist of a coil and magnet, requiring no external power source to operate.<br>Active Sensors: These require external power (typically 5V–12V) to function. While many active sensors use three wires (power, ground, signal), some modern active sensors utilize a two-wire interface where one wire supplies power and the other carries a digital DC square wave signal or current-modulated output. <br>To distinguish between them, back-probe the wires with the ignition on; active sensors will show voltage (5V–12V), whereas passive sensors will read 0V at rest and generate AC voltage only when spun

  Dakota Digital makes several different units for different jobs. The Dakota Digital part # SGI-5E is made for the conversion on your speed sensor. It converts the 3 wire hall effect sensor to the 2 wire passive magnetic system. It comes with a simple to install wiring diagram, so you shouldn&apos;t need Chads help.

  I have this same setup, 241OR in a 91 Comanche. &nbsp;The reason you can&apos;t get it to work, is the difference in the signals. &nbsp;The three wire is a Hall sensor effect, i.e. the signal is constant but varied in intensity. &nbsp;The two wire in the 91s is a REED switch. A reed switch signal is a not constant, it&apos;s open or closed. I tried tons of things including the Dakota box, even it wouldn&apos;t/couldn&apos;t convert the signal. The signal goes to your ECM which uses the speed reference for fuel scheduling, so it&apos;s going to die on decelleration if it doesn&apos;t have this speed signal. The ECU also uses the speed signal to drive the speedometer. &nbsp;My solution was to essentially build a tone ring with three magnetic bolts and is pressed onto the output yoke of the transfer case. &nbsp;Next I built a bracket that bolts inplace of the hall effect sensor, it holds a fully threaded reed switch that triggers off the magnets in the &quot;tone&quot; ring. I can&apos;t remember the details of the math/signal requirements (it&apos;s been well over a decade since I did this) but this supplies enough signal to keep fuel scheduling happy. The speedo reads but it is &quot;slow&quot; and I use a gps for actual speed. &nbsp; I have pictures if you want. I reed switch was the hardest to source, it came from England. Again this was a decade ago but it seemed none in the US was using a reed switch for anything.

  Remember when speedo’s were a mechanically driven metal coil in a housing, and they just worked unless something was physically broken? &nbsp;Gotta love all the improvements.

  Buy a cheap GPS speed module, wire it up to power and ground and the pulse wire into the white signal wire and you are good to go, you will have to go through the calibration sequence of the unit once it hooked up but it works great. &nbsp; Ran a JK Rocktrac 241 in a 92 XJ for a while, this worked like a charm. &nbsp;It may even be posslible to use your wolfbox setup if it has a signal/pulse output wire that you can run to the white wire. &nbsp;But i know a stand alone cheap GPS module does work this way.

  I think the LED resistors are not to reduce voltage for the light but to show a load so the computer thinks there is a light installed.

  Colt, &nbsp;thanks for the confirmation that we ALL hit a brick wall every now and again. &nbsp;It&apos;ll certainly help me breath easier the next time I&apos;ve exhausted every effort to figure something out on my own(well, me and the web). &nbsp;It&apos;ll be interesting to find out what the resolution actually is.

  When you get a minute, you might want to get a tall ladder and wind up the spring on the barn door, so you don&apos;t need the piece of conduit to keep it up! &nbsp;P.S. it only took me 7 years to fix my door!
