  I was working for Sonic Youth on their tour of Europe in 1991. The first gig was in Cork. I met a music journalist friend, Keith Cameron, there and asked him if he'd come to interview/review Sonic Youth. No, he said. Nirvana. I hadn't heard of them: they were the support act for the tour. Keith said I should watch them, so I did. I made sure to watch them for all the other dates. They were absolutely amazing. There is a film of that tour called 1991: The Year Punk Broke. And i'm in it... very very briefly :-)

  Most musicians who claim they don&apos;t know music theory actually DO KNOW music theory. The means in which they learned it was just through listening and internalizing it intuitively, rather than blunt academic analysis. It&apos;s arguably a BETTER way to understand music theory from a creative standpoint. Listen, listen, listen, play.<br><br>Edit: After some feedback I realized my original comment was kinda sloppy. Many musicians know the underlying structures but understand them primarily on a musical/sonic level. Knowing and applying the jargon is what knowing &quot;theory&quot; generally implies.

  An aspect of Kurt&apos;s musicianship that doesn&apos;t get mentioned enough is his singing, and I think it&apos;s actually the key to why the music connected so deeply. Yes the songwriting was brilliant, but it&apos;s the sound and emotion of his voice that really hits you!
