Here in Canada, the running gag about the Liberal Party has always been -<br>"Don't like our policies? No problem; we've got lots more.!

The Liberal party of Canada has never been a left wing party, it is a centrist party. The Liberal party of British Columbia for instance used to be rather far to the right indicating these "liberal" parties in Canada can swing over a range depending on leadership. For us Canadians this is not news. Personally I find Carneys firm and quick action to be a breath of fresh air after Trudeaus laissez fair approach to leadership.

Liberals for canadian standards are centrist. <br>They're left wing for American standards, because of baseline things such as universal healthcare.<br>But if we look at it from European standards, the Liberals are centrist

Liberals moving along the politicial spectrum is par the course: liberalism doesnt have a straight left-right ideology. Its why weve the Trudeaus and Dion def more on the left, to people like Martin, Turner and now Carney on the right, as well as leaders like Pearson, Chretien, and Ignatieff who were more moderate centrists.<br>If you have a strict ideology, like the NDP and Tories do, its REALLY hard to thread the pragmatic moderate vibe around it: Layton for the NDP came closest and really only Mulroney and Harper have managed to beat the Liberals at their own game

I do have to make a clarification. The radical change in Canadian immigration policy happened under Immigration Minister Marc Miller and the Trudeau government. I understand why Carney gets the credit, but the major policy shift was announced in January 2024, 14 months before Carney became PM. It was originally announced as a two-year cap on student visas, followed by other significant reductions in overall immigration targets. I teach at the post-secondary level in Canada, so we were highly sensitive to the major reduction in students that was seen as a result.

note that Carney's sell-off for airport operations doesn't save the public any money, because our airports are already operating as non-profit organizations, which is why our flights cost more. The selloff would only give the govt a one time lump sum of money followed by even higher airport fees and more expensive flights for the rest of time.
