This death hit worse than most because Dan and I were actually friends. We were part of a new sim called SimRaceway. We had Dan and Dario Franchitti as the pros who broke down the cars and told us how to run them. Dan and I discussed SO MUCH about the cars and the tracks...what we were feeling..comparing notes...but we also talked life. Dan was such a down to earth dude. When the wreck happened and I saw the car go airborne I knew it was over. To this day I carry convos Dan and I had back then in my heart. It still hurts alot

I was watching the Las Vegas race, watching this all unfold. It still hurts to remember Dan's death, that he's not around to watch his sons carry on his legacy. This is the best tribute to Dan I've seen; thank you, Josh

“Many people ask me why I always sign off 'Till we meet again. ' Because goodbye is always so final. Goodbye, Dan Wheldon.”

2011 comes very close to 1994 in terms of how dark the racing world got. We lost both Marco Simoncelli and Dan Wheldon

I really hope that one of Dan's sons race in F1 for Cadillac. F1 was Dan's childhood dream that he never got to live. He may not have been an American, but as an American, he was one of us, just like Danny Ric. Godspeed Dan, Godspeed.

Two memories from that day in Vegas:  Danica Patrick, walking from the meeting where the drivers were told of Wheldon's death, tearful, and Franchitti in the cockpit of his car, sobbing.  A hard day.

The 2011 Indianapolis 500 was my first time watching the race. I'll never forget the shock of watching JR Hildebrand hit the wall and not knowing if he was gonna win it or not. Seeing the white and orange 98 car cross the finish line in such a crazy way hooked me on to the series and I've watched it ever since. Learned more about Dan Wheldon and became a fan of his soon after. I'll never forget the day he lost his life. I didn't watch the race as I was on my way home after a soccer game. I saw a friend on Facebook post "RIP Dan Wheldon." I was in shock and watched those first 11 laps to see what happened in Vegas. Truly heartbreaking. Since then, he's always been a guy I've thought about, especially every October or when the IndyCar series wraps up their season. We miss you, Dan. I hope to meet you on the other side when my time comes.

I know Scott Dixon has been at it for a long time, yet it&apos;s still crazy to see him in a 2003 starting lineup knowing he qualified for P4 for this year&apos;s Indy 500 just a few days ago.<br>What a chad.

Yeah. &nbsp; That was a dark day in motorsports. &nbsp; He lives on through the lifeblood of the track itself, of the attitude of the drivers. &nbsp; The roaring of engines, and the loyal fans that cast eyes upon it all.

My absolute favourite driver. Thank you for putting this together. That win in 2011 is still the most incredible thing i have experienced in 30 years of watching motorsport. Wheldon was, and always will be, a racing legend
