I live on the New York shore of Lake Ontario. Beautiful lake but it’s a churning windy storm generating monster.

In all my years of living in the beautiful state of MI, I had never thought of how salt vs fresh water effects buoyancy!

Lake Superior is beautiful, but that beauty is a killer.

I grew up on Lake Erie, spent hours canoeing and taking small boats across to Canada, and the nearby islands. It can get rough, but we had flags posting warnings if paid attention to. I have seen Lake Huron go from glassy smooth to high waves in a matter of minutes, not where you want to be in a small boat. It’s best to not get very far from shore at any time.

I live just a few blocks away from the S.E. shore of Lake Michigan. Spent most of my life near the lake and spent allot of time trolling for salmon. I've been out when it's a calm and beautiful day then dark clouds start moving in from the West and within minutes the once soft rolling waves are now 4-5ft white caps and we're fighting to get to shore. Doesn't sound too bad unless you're in a smaller boat.

I watch the ships go by from Sheboygan's' South Beach, almost every day. When the wind is from the West, the ships stay about 3 NM out from shore. There were three that passed by today. Soon they will shut down for the winter. Working on installing an AIS receiver and upload the data to Marine Traffic. This area has spotty cover.

I need to figure out how I can post pics that I took of ships, ice, heavy storms, funnel clouds, kiters, fronts coming in, oh yes, fog, plenty of that. I do have some drone shots of that where you can see the different layers. Very cool looking.
I love it here, and appreciate that God made this Lake so beautiful.

I live in Detroit so I've swam in Erie many times throughout my life since it's the nearest to me. But my dad is a Yooper and we spent time up north swimming in beautiful lake Superior as well. It is by far the most superior in my opinion. I've seen all of them and I've been to Niagara Falls, which is awe inspiring. But lake Superior always takes my breath away. So crystal clear with rocky shores. And icy cold even in the heat of summer. ♥️🌊
Love it
