Here's a fun fact: The Covenant didn't know that Spartans are Humans. Rather, they believed Spartans where vengeful spirits summoned by humans to fight for them against The Covenant.

I forgot which Halo Novel it was, but I remember one of the Elites that first encountered a Spartan, he believed the Spartan was just a taller human. I think they where fighting over control of a weapon.

As the two struggled, the Elite was groaning and growling as he strained and struggle for control, but he noted how the Spartan was quiet the whole time as he "stared" at the Elite (The Spartans have full body armor and a visor that covers there entire face). The Elite, unnerved by the gold unblinking "eye" staring at his very soul, not only couldn't understand how a human can match him in strength, but also seeming to look like it's not even struggling at all, had roared out "Demon!" as that was the only thing that made sense to him. That he wasn't fighting a human, he was fighting some Hellspawn that the humans had managed to summon.

The Arbiter was the commander of the Covenant you fight in the first Halo. He was punished for failing to protect it.
The Covenant believe that the Halo Rings are keys to ascending to god hood, which is what they believe the Forerunners used them for, not knowing they are weapons that whipe out life to starve the Flood.
The prophets know some of this and other information rhat they kept secret to keep power in the Covenant and convinced them that humanity are demons to their religion.
Humanity has been loosing the war, having most if their planets glassed till they reached Earth.

Fun fact: Master Chief has so many medals and awards that he has a whole warehouse dedicated to just storing all of them. He has so many that if it was melted down, he would have enough metal to make a second suit of armor.

Chief has already earned all the medals the UNSC can give any of its personnel, except for one: the Prisoner of War medal, since the Covenant have never captured him.

The scariest thing about the Flood isn’t how insanely fast it can spread and throw, not how it keeps it’s victims aware, not how terrifying they look or sound or smell.

No, what makes them so damn terrifying is how smart it is. It can plan, create poetry, make alliances. It helps you, because it’s in its best interest to do so. If the ring fires, it’s done for, and it knows it. So it does whatever it can to increase its own chance at survival. It will betray you the moment you and its interests no longer align.

Because the whole purpose of the Flood is to spread suffering onto the galaxy by any means. Machines and AI are just as vulnerable to it just as much as any sentient species.

The true horror of the Flood is its intelligence, and has dedicated its existence to bring nothing but suffering to everyone.

Warning do NOT play Halo 2 on Legendary if you value your sanity, Also try watching the "A day at the beach" as its an extension to the 2nd missions cutscene actually. Also watch the different dialogue Johnson has as he says something different depending on the difficulty

Halo First Strike is a novel prequel to Halo 2. Halo Combat Evolved occurred over the course of 4 days. Immediately after Halo’s destruction, Chief finds a couple of cryo pods floating in orbit. One contains a Spartan named Linda, who’s awaiting medical treatment. The other pods failed and the occupants died. Johnson and three others survived by flying a Pelican dropship into orbit. Chief almost killed him because he thought he was infected by the Flood.

Master Chief and the others hijack a Covenant Carrier (like the ship Chief destroyed with the bomb), returned to Reach and rescue other Spartan survivors and their creator from the planet while taking a human frigate still in orbit. Linda is revived and some more adventures happen.

A giant space station is discovered with a huge fleet of 500 ships being prepared to invade Earth. The Spartans infiltrate the space station and set it to explode; one Spartan dies but it’s a success. Two survivors from Reach fly the captured carrier towards the space station so that the fleet is close to the explosion. Only a dozen badly damaged ships survive the explosion while Master Chief and the others use the frigate to return to Earth.

Johnson is a first-generation Spartan, but more akin to Captain America. He’s immune to flood infection because of his own unique augmentations.

Miranda Keyes is the daughter of Captain Keyes and Dr. Catherine Halsey, the creator of the Spartans.
