  The BBC does not feature commercials whatsoever. Its a publicly owned company funded through a licence fee. The only thing you would ever see &nbsp;is promos for other things on the BBC. ITV is a commercial channel, but the levels of adverts are a lot less in the UK than the US. In addition ITV made a conscious decision not to play ads during the hydration breaks, instead featuring more analysis, mainly because these breaks are very unpopular in the UK

  I find American broadcasts to be such a headache... LOGOS, BRANDING, COMMERCIALS, COLOURS, SPONSORS, COMMERCIALS, DRAMATIC MUSIC, PUNDITS SHOUTING OVER EACH OTHER, COMMERCIALS... then you watch the BBC, which actually comes in for major criticism from the British public, and it&apos;s calm, informed and more chilled.

  I&apos;ve spent my whole life watching BBC and ITV football coverage but this was &nbsp; unexpectedly fascinating to see someone not used to the coverage break it down in this way.

  We hate the artificial hydration breaks to split the game up into quarters. Not how it should be played.

  Those mics are essential at British football matches, Our passionate fans are well known for cheeky, rude and downright vulgar chanting, it is part of the fun culture of a game. Not, however, something you want picking up and transmitting on live tv!

  A British Youtuber called Chris Spargo has literally just released a video talking about the lip mic, showing off how good it is at cancelling out noise. <br>The BBC did have colours for the teams, green for Mexico to match their shirts and white for England; but the rest of the graphic matched so hard to notice. &nbsp;If you compare to another game you&apos;ll probably notice more. <br>The BBC is funded mostly by TV licence (like a tax or subscription fee) and government grants, so they thankfully don&apos;t have or need adverts.

  I didn’t watch any of the US coverage of the World Cup, only UK, Japan, and Australian. But one difference I’ve always noticed in any sports coverage is that in the US, the studio pundits and analysts always talk to the camera, whereas in the UK, they talk to each other. I prefer that style.

  There is a history of pauses in sports broadcasts on British TV, it goes back to the legendary cricket commentator Richie Benaud who said it was better to have dead air than waste breath telling the audience what they can already see.
