7 Chinese DACs That BEAT Western Brands (2027 Best Kept Secret)

Two weeks ago we found seven Chinese amplifiers that beat American brands at every price point. Last week we found seven Chinese speakers that did the same thing to Bowers & Wilkins. The comments asked the obvious next question every single time: what about the DAC — the component that converts your digital files into the analogue signal your amp actually amplifies? In this video: 7 Chinese DACs on Amazon that outperform British and American alternatives at prices ranging from embarrassing to genuinely insulting. The one at the bottom of this list costs $80. The one at the top costs $800. Both of them beat British competitors that cost more than most people's entire hi-fi systems. From the $80 SMSL SU-1 that makes iFi's entry-level justify its existence in every comparison, through the Topping E30 II that quietly retired Cambridge Audio's most recognised product, the Topping D50III with dual-chip balanced outputs at $170 versus Cambridge's $350 equivalent, and the SMSL SU-9 — the measurement community's reference-point midrange DAC — through the Gustard X16 that the Head-Fi community calls the standout DAC below $1,000, and the SMSL DO400 that matches the Chord Hugo 2 on measured performance for $2,095 less, all the way to the Gustard X30 at $800 — the DAC the measurement community places above the $13,000 Chord Dave on every metric Audio Science Review uses. Three Chinese brands: SMSL, Topping, Gustard. Systematically outperforming British and American alternatives at every price point from entry-level to reference-grade. Chinese audio engineering caught up to Western standards around 2019. What remained after that was reputation, heritage, and dealer networks — none of which come out of your speakers. No sponsors. No affiliate money shaping the rankings. #ChineseHiFi #BudgetDAC #Audiophile Chapters: 0:00 Chinese DACs vs. British and American Brands 0:52 #7 Topping E30 II ($100) vs. Cambridge DacMagic 100 ($200) 2:35 #6 SMSL SU-1 ($80) vs. iFi ZEN DAC 3 ($149) 4:17 #5 Topping D50III ($170) vs. Cambridge DacMagic 200M ($350) 6:18 #4 SMSL SU-9 ($250) vs. iFi ZEN DAC Signature ($299) 8:13 #3 Gustard X16 ($300) vs. Chord Qutest ($1,595) 9:31 #2 SMSL DO400 ($400) vs. Chord Hugo 2 ($2,495) 11:55 #1 Gustard X30 ($800) vs. Chord Dave ($13,000) 15:30 The Engineering Gap Between Chinese and Western Audio
