That myth about Homosexuality being normal in ancient Greece would be equivalent to people in 2000 years only watching Netflix Cuties and thinking we were all pedophiles, that we all thought it was normal and ok and it was encouraged as the purest form of love.

What kills me with things like this and that new Cleopatra thing on Netflix is that they can’t see that what they’re doing is literal colonization of culture and history. They storm in and demand that everyone treat them as special and protected while simultaneously demanding no one question when they outright steal another cultures figures or whatever. We’re just supposed to accept it. It’s infuriating.

Its actually interesting that most of the references to greek homosexuality come from one group talking about their rivals.
The Spartans called the Athenians boy lovers and the Athenians said the same thing about the Spartans.
Almost as if it was meant as an insult.

As a Greek (not an ancient one) I am a thousand times grateful for this video. It's so tiring listening to people telling me how ancient Greece (and Athens especially) was an lgbt heaven, till Christianity came and crashed the party

As a Greek, taught by Greeks, in a Greek school, with all of our evidence... we are not pleased with the LGBT misrepresentation of Greeks.

Another common misconception: vases and pottery were never meant to be the public art of the the day, they were common semi-disposable everyday items, often decorated only to distinguish them from the other guy's wares. Taking pottery art to represent what most Greeks thought would be like someone trying to figure out our culture from novelty aprons. "It says 'Kiss the Chef' apparently they revered the household cook and would demonstrate it with a ritual kiss of adoration"

My best friend was gay. I cried when he died in 2010 at the age of 29. I've cried many times since. Still tear up on rare occasions. So I must be SUPER gay. Guess I better tell my wife.

It’s honestly sad that some people seemingly can’t comprehend platonic love

As a former soldier I can't begin to describe the feeling of love and brotherhood you develop for your brothers and sisters in arms and to lose one in a combat situation fills you with such sadness/rage and despair just like losing any other loved one. Nothing to do with wanting to sleep with someone, I can tell by how quickly they push into that thought process none of them have ever served anything in their life.

I’ve just tried debating with so called educated people about the myth of homosexuality being the norm in Ancient Greek and I was savagely attacked and called a homophobic all because I started historical facts

In Greece at school we read the Iliad. When Patroklos died we asked if the text was complete or if they were hiding some verses from us. We had heard about Achilles' homosexual relationship with Patroklos but nowhere in the text did it exist. Yes, the text was complete. There was not a single mention of a homosexual relationship
