I have a C-15 CAT with 1,261,000 miles on it. I did at 1,217,000 miles have an overhaul but was told I didn't need one. The head gasket had a small tear in it but the mechanic said that nothing was wrong with it, not even blow by but with that many miles do preventative maintenance would be better. He said when I got my truck back that I should get 3 million miles out of the engine now. I won't have any other engine.

CAT did have the ability to produce an engine suitable for the new EPA. They just chose not to, the truck market wasnt big enough to warrant the expense, CAT truck engines are only really fitted in North american trucks for the most part. Then there was the warranty costs ontop of that as in the truck market everything is a warranty job expected to be free. CAT just couldn't be bothered with it anymore.
