Mark Knopfler is actualy left handed, so not only does he play without a pick, he also plays with his "wrong" hand. Dire Straits released 6 studio albums, with all songs written by Mark Knopfler, but Mark also released 10 solo albums and wrote music for 8 movies.

What blows me away is that he's self-taught, and created his own 'claw hammer' finger picking style on an electric guitar, in a rock band!!!

Mark Knopfler is the lead guitarist, vocalist and composer of songs for the band. He's been "solo" in recordings for many years since disbanding Dire Straits. His tone, feel and masterful guitar playing overall are immediately recognizable as signature Knopfler. His playing is pretty flashy here, but he more often plays subtle guitar in coordination with the overall song arrangement. The other guitarist is rhythm, though he occasionally plays some lead licks. This performance is obviously one of the most powerful you'll see any band do, with creative pacing and changes to extend the original recorded version into this longer presentation. All the band members contribute in important ways, including a strong drummer and beautiful keyboard elements.
