This time, I visited Misato Kinenkan, a farm guesthouse in Aomori Prefecture where more than 20 cats live. Before my visit, the owner described it as “the craziest inn in Aomori,” so I was honestly a little nervous before going. But when I arrived, I found a lively and fun place where adorable cats live together like one big family 🐱 The cats freely walk around the house, rest wherever they like, and in the morning and evening, they even go out for walks to the farm next door. I had heard that visitors can learn about the lives of cats here, and that was really true. I saw cats taking turns caring for the kittens, a male cat helping look after them, and the older cats teaching the younger ones how to climb trees. There was also a moment where the mother cat seemed to give the best parts of the food to her kittens, while eating what was left herself. The stories I heard from the owner about the cats were also very interesting. During my stay, I enjoyed wonderful local food from Aomori, including delicious sushi made by a master with 60 years of experience, local dishes from a nearby supermarket, and the guesthouse’s amazing French toast with plenty of fresh vegetables. It was a fun stay where I could feel the everyday lives of the cats, the scenery of the farm, and the warmth of Aomori.
