That oil filter is a prime example of my motto as a mechanic: its always something dumb. When things don't add up, always take a step back and start checking the easy things that may or may not be related to the problem at hand. Has saved me countless hours of troubleshooting.

18:35 ... ya know, in my world... that scoring isnt scoring ... its extra oil storage, just like scraping in a babbitt bearing!!! Lol!
Extra long vid! Awesome!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦

Big sigh of relief when you realized the sprocket had to come back off the camshaft. Near identical to my old XL250 as far as that works. And I bet that screw that does nothing on the tensioner locks down that inner screw. Bolt it in, loosen that bolt and it tensions itself.

Here is a tip , Aluminum foil would work great as the "surgical blanket" in that case. I know that first hand 😉

Whoever put that oil filter in backwards, they were not alone. My brother did the same thing to my boss's new Honda 4 wheeler back in 1987.

Just a tip: if you position the air nozzle adjacent to the hole you want to clear rather than directly into it and blow across or 'sideways' from the hole, it causes a 'vacuum' inside the hole, sucking the debris out rather than pushing them further in.

I rebuild motosports carburetors as part of my work, I have a small salvage yard and also rebuild carbs. Take the carb off. Hit the carb body, in the choke plunger area (on the exterior of the carb) with a propane/MAPP torch for 15 seconds. That little brass choke plunger will dang near fall out. They get varnished up. ~200 degrees will make the varnish liquid again for a few seconds. Works like a charm. I have removed MANY stuck choke plungers that way. Keep the heat cycle short, and cool the carb body with compressed air, no damage will occur. Pinpoint heat is the answer.

Your videos are great : )

I watch them when I am not spinning my own wrenches.

You gotta wonder how many of those filters were put in backwards for all these many years and how many motors seized cause of it 🤔🤔🤔

Your patience, persistence - never showing off, no loud voices, gimmicks, pure joy of working these tricky engines. A real master. Deservedly successful in YT, keep going Mustie, you teach us so much. Reminds me of a Japanese master of his craft. I will go back to the garage now, totally motivated. Thank you for all your work, bro.
