  I find it funny when people think the Smiths songs are sad songs or miserable songs. If you was a young person in the 80s when these came out and maybe you were shy or life was difficult for you and then suddenly someone sang a song that describes how you felt, it made you feel joy, it made you feel that you weren’t alone in the world and these became our happy songs and even to this day at nearly 60 years old these songs can make me cry but mostly with joy and although I’m successful now, I’m still that awkward kid deep down inside that finds relief in the lyrics of the Smith songs.

  I was a very self-conscious and insecure virgin in 1986. "Never Had No One Ever" threw me for a loop, but it was also cathartic therapy. One of the Morrissey songs that saved the lives of many teens, I am sure.

  “I Know It’s Over” is not a doo wop or self deprecating” song. It’s touching on themes of unrequited love, unvalued, suicide, depths of associated despair that most people have felt.
