I have evaporated milk, but I also get the shelf life milk from the Dollar Tree. I discovered the taste is excellent. IF I drink a glass of shelf life milk I like to add a tablespoon of my favorite heavy whipped cream. I just bought a supply that sits on my pantry shelf and Best By date is May 2027. This will get us through the whole winter, if needed. I make my own corned beef hash stew. Think I will pick up a few cans of corned beef hash and see what my family thinks of it. I am a scratch or what I call myself an ingredient cook. So, I have a good stock of basic staples for making chili beans, spaghetti sauce, plenty of flour and baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar, honey, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, etc. I can make biscuits, pancakes, flat breads, tortillias, other breads as long as I have a viable supply of yeast, or can always make sour dough starter. I have canned meats and fish,EXCEPT sardines. My family will not eat sardines. I can use them if mashed up into ceasar salad dressing. I write the Best By date on every can,jar etc. I purchase. I follow the first in/first out and I base it on the Best By date….BUT I DO USE FOODS PAST THE BEST BY DATE….food does not suddenly turn bad or inedible on it’s Best By date.
