The heron outfit is my favourite of all kabuki, I love the veil and the mystique of the look. The transformation from heron to city girl never fails to impress. Great performance of the sagi musume

From the comments I gather this is the story of the Heron Maiden betrayed by her human lover, curiously the story of Kurangaituku & Hatupatu of Māori myth follows a similar narrative of a heron-woman betrayed by her human lover.

There are 5 costume changes and we go from a veil to a full elaborate updo to a disheveled updo. One can understand why this is such a popular kabuki- the choreography to pull off each change requires intricate play with the music and the background workers need to work with the dancer/actor and the music. The clothes need to be thin enough to stack but intricate and vibrant enough to stand on their own. <br><br>I can’t quite understand all of the movements and the meaning of each song, but even as a foreigner who did dance as a girl, I appreciate and love the intricacy, how the dancer uses the props and those seriously quick changes! I can’t change that fast!
